I forgot to mention that my good friend is in the process of getting erikafriedlander.com up and running and it is looking FABULOUS. An official launch SHOULD be just around the corner.
In return for his amazing services, I am going to help him book a summer tour again, but bigger, badder, and LOUDER then before. Full band, playing for paychecks not tips, and having a loooot of fun. I have found a LOT of pretty sweet places in Nashville, and if they are up for it, I'm going to look as far up as New York and Boston. If not, we'll have a pretty nice time in the southeast and work from there.

are you kidding?
My second external hard drive in less then a month has died. Luckily the last time taught me a lesson and i had been backing up MOST of my stuff, but i think i might have lost the assignment I did in class the other day. Its fine, it can be re-shot, but damn this is really disappointing. Today was a great day, I woke up at 10 for once and had a healthy breakfast, then went work for a few hours. When I got home, I put Marley on her leash and walked her ALL around town. We must have walked for 2 or 3 hours. It was awesome. I talked to my mom and bragged about how great my day was. And then I got home and this happened. At least I still have all my images, I need to thank God for that.
ugh.
i think i can, i think i can
i haven't updated this blog since it was critiqued, in class, but i refuse to let this space go to waste. blogging will continue!!

The camera store in my hometown closed down and they had a huge clearance sale today, so my dad went over and bought some pretty cool stuff. Sadly, they cleaned out all of their cameras, lenses, and lights before the sale started, but he managed to get a large, tan seamless backdrop, a few boxes of Polaroid type 600 film, a CF card, and thiiiis:

at least it's not LA
3 months until graduation.
the art world is starting to seem scarier and scarier. how is it that photography can be so different based on geography? and more importantly, how do i know where MY photography fits in the grand scheme of things? all of my research have helped me narrow my cities to the following:

New York:
Pros: Big city
LOTS of options
plenty of familiar faces/potential roommates
Cons: Expensive
photo positions are hard to find, must start at entry level or even just an internship
potential for distraction

Boston:
Pros: Big city
Close to NY, Philly, etc.
close to Berklee, opportunities for headshots, musician photos, album covers
Cons: very few magazines
pretty expensive

Atlanta:
Pros: close to home and Savannah, familiar with the town
possibility of grad school at SCAD-Atlanta (SAC job!?)
record labels and different sized magazines
Cons: too far south, not-so-ideal weather
not quite the job market i'm interested in
pretty far from most other big cities

Nashville:
Pros: my best friends have plans to move there, collaboration
lots of record labels, musicians
a lot of event photo opps
Cons: not quite the size and climate i want
following my friends and not my heart?

Chicago:
Pros: Big City!
Lots of new and exciting musicians to photograph
mid west!!
Cons: Expensive
Not sure about solid job, just free lance

it's very important that i share this artist with you before i go any further with this.

Tom Conrad is easily my favorite photographer and the inspiration behind a lot of what i do. He used to play guitar in a poppy little band (http://www.theacademyis.com) but for some reason left/was kicked out (depending on who is telling the story I guess).
Either way, it seemed at first glance that music was Tom's job and photography was just an exciting hobby. However, his photos of life on the road spoke way louder then his guitar could ever play. He's in a new band (http://www.weareempires.com), but hopefully this will just mean even more photos from even better places.

b is right.
my friend brandon told me tonight that he thinks photographers need blog's to give people a little glimpse into our thought processes. he didn't even know i'd started this. even though this started out as a class assignment, i have a feeling this could benefit me in the future.
so, for the time being, i'm just going to use this as a place to store all things that inspire me, and hopefully, inspire you as well. i will post my own work, my friend's work, and just stuff i find along the way.
here are a few pictures from johnny cupcakes, a t-shirt designer out of boston who does some not-so-amateur photography on the side. this first picture especially makes me really compelled to carry a camera with me EVERYWHERE, no matter what. i had the pleasure of meeting him a few months ago and he was incredible and silly and some one who i've always wanted to be cool enough to be friends with. and let me brag and say that THIS last photo was on his website, taken from HIS camera, by YOURS TRUELY!
