the art world is starting to seem scarier and scarier. how is it that photography can be so different based on geography? and more importantly, how do i know where MY photography fits in the grand scheme of things? all of my research have helped me narrow my cities to the following:
New York:
Pros: Big city
LOTS of options
plenty of familiar faces/potential roommates
Cons: Expensive
photo positions are hard to find, must start at entry level or even just an internship
potential for distraction
Boston:
Pros: Big city
Close to NY, Philly, etc.
close to Berklee, opportunities for headshots, musician photos, album covers
Cons: very few magazines
pretty expensive
Atlanta:
Pros: close to home and Savannah, familiar with the town
possibility of grad school at SCAD-Atlanta (SAC job!?)
record labels and different sized magazines
Cons: too far south, not-so-ideal weather
not quite the job market i'm interested in
pretty far from most other big cities
Nashville:
Pros: my best friends have plans to move there, collaboration
lots of record labels, musicians
a lot of event photo opps
Cons: not quite the size and climate i want
following my friends and not my heart?
Chicago:
Pros: Big City!
Lots of new and exciting musicians to photograph
mid west!!
Cons: Expensive
Not sure about solid job, just free lance
